SHUTEEN ERDENEBAATAR

QUARTET

Erdenebaatar's quartet, which is her core working band, is much in demand in Germany. Although the group has a very standard jazz line up (piano, bass, sax, and drums), Erdenebaatar succeeds at giving this format a fresh modern coloring of her very own. Her distinctive sound can be recognized in the energetic freedom and dynamic unity with which she leads her band, always encouraging them to harmonize individually and as a group with instinctive free improvisation and expressive interaction leading them to a sophistication of interplay beyond expectation for their youthful years. The quartet is rooted by the young and yet top-class Munich bassist, Nils Kugelmann, and driven by the powerful, yet sensitive drumming of Valentin Renner. The melodically and rhythmically sophisticated inventions of multi-award-winning sax and flute specialist, Anton Mangold completes their sound alongside Erdenebaatar's highly personal and engaging pianism. These quartet members, though leaders in their own right, have gravitated toward Erdenebaatar’s rising star as one of the most inventive and accomplished young artists on the German jazz scene today.

The quartet has won the 1st prize and the audience award of the legendary Young Munich Jazz Award 2022 and the 2nd prize for the 7 Virtual Jazz Club Global Contest. The quartet's debut album "RISING SUN" was released on September 15, 2023 on New York based, multi-GRAMMY® winning label Motéma Music.
